Nightrunner
The Future of Circus
In the neon underworld of Metro-7, two strangers step into The Nightrunner System — a virtual world ruled by an enigmatic and slightly unhinged Artificial being called The Dealer. The Dealer invites them to escape reality and enter a digital paradise known as the braindance, promising them everything they’ve ever desired...

Nightrunner is a highly immersive, cinematic circus experience where pulsing electronic score and cyberpunk design merge with physical storytelling to explore the cost of escape and the fragility of identity in an age dominated by artificial pleasure.
Adelaide Hipster ★★★★★
“Nightrunner by afterdarktheatre is a perception warping, reality twisting, light bending circus executed by a troupe of super talented acrobats”
The List ★★★★★
“an exhilarating spectacle that pushes the limits of human ability, tapping into personal desires and subconscious journeys."
Barbaroi
A neon- dystopian Cyberpunk Circus Showdown
A dystopian world, industrial, cyberpunk in the not-too-distant future. Gangs overrun the neon-clad side streets, the underbelly and outcasts rule the pitch-black forgotten ruins of an old district. There is chaos, there is danger in the shadows. There is a Showdown happening downtown; a lone wanderer stumbles amongst a crew of meta-human misfits, the Barbaroi. Will she have what it takes to be one of them? This is do or die, this is her initiation.
Inspired by the world of shadows where anything goes, and the gritty underbelly of society, BARBAROI is a blend of high octane circus, cabaret and physical theatre. Complimented by finely tuned lighting and special effects, this show will lead audiences down the rabbit-hole and asking, ‘Who are the BARBAROI?’

Barbaroi is a blend of high octane contemporary circus and exciting physical theatre. It combines daring acrobatics, aerials & phenomenal circus acts set against a pumping soundtrack complimented by finely tuned lighting and special effects.
The Barbaroi will leave audiences young and old holding their breath and on the edge of their seat. Welcome to the five star award winning cyberpunk circus showdown that is Barbaroi!
Theatrepeople ★★★★★

Neon_Funk
Utopian Circus Block Party
After Rome was nearly decimated by the great fire of 64AD, the Colosseum was constructed as a way to breathe life back into the city. Residents and travelers were lured with the promise of great spectacle, entertainment, and celebration, and a public reclamation of what had once been palatial grounds.
And while we know this is a grand over-simplification of Roman history, this spirit of resurgence resonated heavily with us at After Dark Theatre as Melbourne emerged from lockdowns. As established producers of high-tech circus, events, and outdoor entertainment, we felt that a (COVID-safe) celebration of community, resilience, and rebirth was in order.
The_Neon_Funk is our contemporary Colosseum. With a dystopian, neon aesthetic, and dynamic animations of circus, light, and music, Neon Funk was an activation that engaged Queen Victoria Market. It can now be easily installed to bring life, colour and celebration to many other sites going forward.
The_Neon_Funk is an explosive fusion of circus, light show, and street party, perfect for transforming any venue into a futuristic, cyberpunk spectacle. Whether it's an alleyway, festival ground, or city street, this production is fully modular—featuring scaffold towers, freight containers, or aerial trusses, all brought to life by dynamic performers.

Stencil Art x High-tech Projection Mapping
Money, power, beauty, fame; each with their own path: Utopian, or Dystopian.
Two artists. Four individual pieces each and one collaborative artwork in an exhibition combining stencil art, high-tech lighting projection and two paths- so that you can choose what happens next.
After Dark Theatre is bringing something a little different to Adelaide Fringe Festival this year: an immersive exhibition featuring artwork from Head of Design (and laser artist) Francesco Minniti and emerging stencil artist Kara Hawkins. These works come alive with projection mapping and video collages to showcase how these themes can either lead humanity to utopia or corrupt us into dystopia.
